Whether you are looking for a quick bar snack with the family or a taste of some of the local brews such as Doom Bar or Tribute, St Ives has a wide choice of pubs and bars. A lot have entertainment at the weekend with some excellent bands and artists.
The walk around the harbour will keep you amused, start at the oldest pub in town, The Sloop and wander along the harbour front to The Lifeboat, then perhaps double back along Fore Street and visit the Castle and The Union.
One of the trendiest bars on the harbour front, is The Hub, wonderful sea views across the harbour as well as a good atmosphere. Back on Fore Street visit the Firehouse Bar and Grill.
For those wanting to extend the evening the main nightclub is Isobar on Tregenna Hill.
Remember to visit St Ives in the winter for a warm welcome particularly January - it's Sale Time - half price beer and cider.
Sloop Inn St Ives Harbour Front
The Sloop Inn is one of Cornwall's oldest and most famous Inns, favourite haunt of locals, fishermen, artists and tourists all year round. Believed to date from about 1312 A.D.
Situated right on the harbour front at St Ives with only a cobbled forecourt and road separating it from the sea. Various beers are served including Doom Bar, Ruddles County & Speckled Hen. Food served daily also, Sunday roasts. Children not allowed in the bars after 9.00pm.
For those in the know, they have January Sales when beer is half price ! , a good time to visit St Ives
Lifeboat Inn The Wharf St Ives
Situated on the harbour front The Lifeboat Inn has live music twice a week throughout the year. Friday nights tend towards a lively rock and heavier bands whilst Sunday lunchtimes tend towards a more blues, folk, jazzy feel. The Lifeboat is one of the main venues of the September Fringe Festival with live bands performing almost every day.
Children welcome and food served all day. A good pint of Tribute from St Austell brewery, not a very sophisticated pub with an instrusive large TV, but popular with tourists.
Union Inn Fore Street, St Ives
The Union Inn is found on Fore Street which runs parallel with The Wharf, a pub with atmosphere and some good beers such as Doom bar and Betty Stoges.
Serves food but perhaps a drinkers pub !!
Castle Inn Fore Street, St Ives
The Castle is another "drinkers" pub on Fore Streeet, the exterior is quite bright and alluring and the spacious, open interior has all the trademark old world low ceilings, flagstoned floors, old paneling and basic furnishings that you would expect.
Some good beers such as Betty Stoggs, Abbott, Bombardier and a Real Cider Cornish Orchard served direct from the cask. Like many pubs in Cornish towns, they display a list of banned patrons so the local brawlersare kept away!!. Well worth seeking out.
Golden Lion St Ives
The Golden Lion is perhaps a boozer for the locals and doesn't make a particular good first impression but it has a pretty good selection of ales that does make the visit worthwhile - Doom Bar, Heligan Honey, Keltek Magik and Old Rosie cider. It is actually the only pub in St Ives in the Camra Good Beer Guide.
If you are not fussed about asthetics, then the place may just have some appeal to you. If you are not an Ale fan and prefer somewhere a bit easier on the eye, then this is not the place for you.
Live music (Every Sunday and most Friday evenings), TV (In both bars), Jukebox and a superb selection of music in the back bar. Food served (Homemade soup every day), Sunday roast, outside seating, dogs and children allowed.ide seating, Dogs allowed, Children allowed.
Queens Hotel High St
The Queens is not a particularly attractive venue and has a limited choice of beer, IPA but a good pint of Tribute from St Austell Brewery.
Entertainment, SKY TV, food all day, children welcome.
Isobar
Isobar at Tregenna Place is a lively late-night bar in St Ives which has regular DJs and live music. Isobar is the main night-spot in the town and attracts customers from a wide catchment area. There are very few promotions although the venue has recently introduced live jazz and comedy. On two floors the Isobar has a cafe-bar/ lounge/ chill-out area on the ground floor with the main club room upstairs. This area has a high original beamed ceiling with 20 mirror balls hanging over the dance floor. The DJ booth is at the rear with recessed seating in red velvet
The Hub St Ives
The Hub Bar and Brasserie can be found on The Wharf, wonderful views across St Ives harbour and is renowned for its great atmosphere, simple but beautifully cooked food and a stunning array of wines, beers and cocktails.
So whether you want a coffee and a brownie to start your day, are looking for a great place to eat out for lunch or simply want to spend the evening with friends enjoying a meal and cocktails overlooking the harbour on our heated outdoor terrace before letting your hair down in the main bar, then the Hub is the perfect place for you.
The Hub is one of THE bars to be on New Years Eve in St Ives,
Western Hotel
You can find The Western Hotel in Royal Square, it is one a typical Cornish coaching with period charm also offering regular live music - acoustic, jazz, blues and folk, including many local bands. Every Tuesday it is the home of St Ives Jazz Club.
Pubs along the St Ives Rail Link
The rail link between St Ives and Penzance provides you with the ideal opportunity to experience one of the most scenic railway journeys in the UK and visit some of the pubs serving real ales and ideally situated within walking distance of the St Ives Bay Line. There are quite few to sample in St Ives, then try the Badger at Lelant, The Watermill and Old Quay House just a short walk from Lelant Saltings stop. For the serious visitor perhaps travel on to St Erth and Penzanze.
