St Ives is easily accessible by train from anywhere in the UK. There are a number of properties close to the Porthminster station at each, some within walking distance although be mindful of carrying your luggage up the hills, check the location map against each.
The St Ives Branch line is perhaps one of the most scenic in the UK so perhaps experience it at least once on your holiday and combine it with a walk to Carbis Bay or Lelant.

There are two stations in Lelant, one in Carbis Bay and one in St Ives.
Lelant - limited parking - Streetview
Lelant Saltings - park and ride so plenty of spaces - Map
Carbis Bay - small car park very busy in peak weeks - Streetview
Porthminster St Ives - a large but busy car park year round - Streetview

The London Paddington train also stops just before Penzance at St Erth, where you can change to reach St Ives.
The Cornish Riviera Sleeper Train from Paddington, London
The Sleeper train departs from London Paddington at 23:45 and arrives in Penzance at 08:00 the following morning.
The Cornish Riviera Sleeper Train from Penzance, Cornwall
The Sleeper train departs from Penzance at 21:35 and arrives in London Paddington at 05:41 the following morning.
Please note: On Sundays this service departs Penzance at 21:15 and from London at 23:50.
