Lelant is a pretty village with a large sandy beach on the seaward side and has the mouth of the Hayle estuary running alongside. Once an important port, it is still a busy haven for local fishing boats. The Hayle Estuary is a well renowned bird sanctuary a particular favourite with bird watchers.

The oldest links course in Cornwall is between the beach and village, a golfers dream course with outstanding views across St Ives Bay. Lelant's St Uny church is also the start of the 13 mile coast to coast pilgrimage route called St Michaels Way, a delightful walk past Trencrom Hill to St Michaels Mount.

Lelant was the birthplace of Rosamunde Pilcher the internationally renowned author who wrote many a romantic novel for Mills and Boon but is perhaps best well known for her novel The Shell Seekers. The film version was set in nearby Lamorna Cove, Marazion and Lands End. A number of her other novels were also filmed in the area, Coming Home was a mini series actually filmed in the village of Lelant.

Lelant has two railway stations on the picturesque coastal St Ives Bay line linking Carbis Bay and St Ives and St Erth in the opposite direction. At the Lelant Saltings stop there is a large Park and Ride car park for visitors to the busy seaside town of St Ives.

Lelant Beaches

The Hayle river leads into the estuary mouth, most of the beach on the Lelant side is called Porth Kidney beach over 2 miles long and even longer at low tide. West Cornwall Golf Club

Dating back to 1889, West Cornwall Golf Club is one of the oldest links courses in the country and certainly the oldest in Cornwall. Golfers may find they are frequently distracted from their game as the course runs alongside the Hayle Estuary and has stunning coastal views across St Ives Bay. RSPB Hayle Estuary Nature Reserve

In cold winters, as many as 18,000 birds have been seen here at the Hayle Estuary Nature Reserve, because this most south westerly estuary in the UK with the influence of the Gulf Stream, it never freezes. St Michaels Way

St Uny Church

St Uny's church dates back to the 12th century, originally called St Euny's church, the present building whose features are mainly Norman is thought to be from the 15th century.
