Whether you\u2019re looking to stay local to St Ives and the southwest of the county or head further afield to the north coast, there\u2019s no shortage of idyllic beaches for fishing in Cornwall.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Porthmeor Beach,\u00a0St Ives<\/h3>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-61954\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carbisbayholidays.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2021\/09\/iStock-185299546-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1255\" height=\"785\" \/><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Who says you have to travel far to find a perfect beach to fish from in Cornwall? The sandy shores around St Ives and Carbis Bay are ideal for an afternoon of fishing.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>If you\u2019re visiting St Ives for the summer we recommend Porthmeor beach for a day of fishing in Cornwall. When there\u2019s a slight swell to the water you might be able to catch a bass or two and there\u2019s often plenty of dogfish around.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>And, if you\u2019re fishing from Porthmeor in the winter months, you might be lucky enough to land yourself some plaice, turbot and flounder.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pendennis Point, Falmouth<\/h3>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-61956\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carbisbayholidays.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2021\/09\/iStock-174919697.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1255\" height=\"831\" \/><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Head an hour outside of St Ives to Pendennis Point in Falmouth on the southwest coast, and you\u2019ll be treated to a fishing spot surrounded by stunning views out over the Atlantic ocean.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The rocky ground around the base of Pendennis point makes this Cornish fishing spot perfect for catching a range of species including bass, pollack, mackerel and wrasse in the summer and whiting and flounder in the winters.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dennis Cove, Padstow<\/h3>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>If you fancy travelling further afield for a day of fishing, why not head to the North Cornwall town of Padstow?\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Renowned for its fish and seafood restaurants, particularly those of celebrity chef Rick Stein, Padstow is a must-visit for avid and amateur anglers alike.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>An ideal spot for shore fishing in the summer, Dennis Cove on the Camel estuary is home to bass, mullet, flounder, bream and eels. And, when the estuary is at low tide, you won\u2019t have far to look for bait; rummage along the shoreline to find bait such as peeler crabs.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Freshwater Fishing in Cornwall\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-61958\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carbisbayholidays.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2021\/09\/iStock-1267360082.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1254\" height=\"836\" \/><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>If shore fishing isn\u2019t your cup of tea, and you\u2019d prefer something a little more laid back, then never fear there\u2019s plenty of great locations for freshwater fishing in Cornwall.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Argal Reservoir, Falmouth<\/h3>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-61962\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carbisbayholidays.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2021\/09\/gal11.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1255\" height=\"744\" \/><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This reservoir, set just back from the small village of Mabe near Falmouth, is one of the best spots for freshwater fishing in Cornwall. With a <a href=\"https:\/\/coarse.swlakesfishing.co.uk\/waters\/argal\/#fishery-info\">well-stocked fishery<\/a> full of carp, pike, tench, bream, roach, rudd, perch and eels, amateur and advanced fishers alike will be sure to land a decent catch at Argal Reservoir.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Permits can be purchased via a self-service system on-site at the reservoir. There\u2019s also a cafe, a children\u2019s play area, a picnic area and showers on-site so the whole family can enjoy a day fishing at Argal Reservoir.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Clover Coarse Fishing, Portreath<\/h3>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-61964\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carbisbayholidays.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2021\/09\/iStock-697358362.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1255\" height=\"838\" \/><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This two-acre lake is perfect for a summers day spent freshwater fishing. Clover lake is home to both mirrored a common carp and is well stocked so there\u2019s every chance of visitors landing a catch.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>With bait and permits available to purchase from reception and rods ready and waiting to hire, all you need to do is turn up and get fishing. It&#8217;s also worth noting that the lake operates a coarse fishing only policy.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Considerations Before you go Fishing in Cornwall<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Just like anywhere else in the country, you\u2019ll need a rod licence before you head out freshwater fishing in Cornwall. The rod licence covers you when fishing for salmon, trout, freshwater fish, smelt or eel with a rod and line throughout England, including Cornwall.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>You can buy a 1-day, 8-day or 12-month rod licence from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/fishing-licences\/buy-a-fishing-licence\">Government website<\/a>. You\u2019ll need to have your licence with you whenever you fish in freshwater in Cornwall, if you don\u2019t you may be fined up to \u00a32,500.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>However, if you\u2019re planning to fish in the sea from beaches, rocks or piers in Cornwall, you don\u2019t need a licence. But, there are some other restrictions in place including minimum size limitations and catch and keep orders.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Species restrictions for catch and keep<\/h3>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-61966\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carbisbayholidays.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2021\/09\/iStock-1255502647.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1255\" height=\"740\" \/><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/britishseafishing.co.uk\/do-i-need-a-fishing-licence-for-sea-fishing\/\">The British Sea Fishing website<\/a> states that the following fish must be returned to the sea if caught by anglers:\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Salmon and Trout<\/strong> \u2013 These species require a freshwater fishing licence if they are to be retained, regardless of where they are caught. Anglers should not target this species unless they have the appropriate licence and any which are inadvertently caught should be immediately returned.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Silver Eels <\/strong>\u2013 Protected species due to declining numbers that must be returned alive to the sea if caught by anglers.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Allis Shad <\/strong>and <strong>Twaite Shad<\/strong> \u2013 Protected under Schedule 5 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Bass<\/strong> \u2013 Anglers are required to fish for bass on a catch and release basis during January, February and December of 2020. From 1st March to 30th November 2020 anglers can retain two Bass per angler per day, provided they reach a minimum size of 42cm.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Giant Goby<\/strong> and<strong> Couch\u2019s Goby<\/strong> \u2013 Protected under Schedule 5 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 due to declining numbers.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>As well as these restrictions on which species of fish you can catch, there are also restrictions on the minimum size of fish anglers can catch.
