In fact, if you\u2019re looking for a nice ride and an opportunity to absorb some knowledge about Cornish heritage, this is among the best cycle trails in Cornwall to suit your needs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s located in the Camborne\/Redruth mining district, near Four Lanes \u2014 an area that\u2019s <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">world-famous for its mining history<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The Great Flat Lode is a 12km circular cycle trail that\u2019s part of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site. Its name derives from a \u2018lode\u2019 of tin discovered lying at a 30-degree angle (rather than the regular 70 degrees) \u2014 therefore making it a great flat(ish) lode!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Along the trail, you\u2019ll find plenty of sights and relics worth de-saddling for, such as old engine houses and the remains of mining machinery. You\u2019ll even be able to stand over an old mining shaft, but don\u2019t worry, there\u2019s a sturdy metal grate to keep you safe. From here, you can also venture up to Carn Brea for a fantastic panoramic view of your surroundings and even see South Wheal Crofty, Cornwall\u2019s last working tin mine.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Coast to Coast<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-61806\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carbisbayholidays.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2021\/09\/iStock-1248264659.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1254\" height=\"836\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This short and sweet cycle trail in Cornwall covers 11 miles from the north coast to the south coast, hence the name! Although it may not be the longest trail, relatively short for a cycle trail actually, it&#8217;s the perfect choice for a quick afternoon jaunt with friends and family. However, it would be a shame to rush through it and not take in your surroundings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This old mineral railway provides an ideal, almost traffic-free setting for a lovely ride in the sunshine. As you make your way through the beautiful countryside, you&#8217;ll benefit from the lack of traffic and foot traffic, as it tends to be a nice ride for some peace and quiet. You&#8217;ll also stumble upon the occasional cafe, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bike hire shops<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, some fishing villages, and a couple of pubs too.
