Glenside House

Glenside House is a spacious comfortable Home, the location is perfect for Carbis Bay and St Ives, with some coastal walks on your doorstep.

For those wishing to entertain the KITCHEN and dining room are the hub of the property and have everything in place, also weather permitting alfresco dining is available in the rear garden which has a Webber kettle barbecue. We will definitely be heading back to this lovely property and location.

This property has character and is just a few minutes picturesque walk downhill to Carbis Bay beach.

There was plenty of room for the seven of us and it was great that each room had its own bathroom. The best feature was by far the fabulous kitchen with its extra large family dining area where we ate and played games most evenings. The lounge/conservatory was a good size with two very comfortable sofas (looked brand new) and two easy chairs. There was a second lounge with a comfortable sofa and armchairs which was a great place to take a book, or in our case, for the men to listen to the football. Some of the decor looked tired and in one of the twin rooms there was mould on the ceiling. The master bedroom had a great view of the sea but the curtains are thin like voile and don’t close properly and were hanging off the rail so need replacing. In all, we had a great week at Glenside.

We were a party of 5 adults and found the accommodation very comfortable as the house has plenty of bedrooms, bathrooms and communal areas.

WiFi is good enough for 3 of us to do work from the house. It was lovely and warm as the heating was on this time. Very useful lighting outside the property when it's dark. Plenty of parking, great as we had 4 cars. There's a good walk in to St ives and it's handy for the train too. Points to consider: we were disappointed that there is not a BluRay DVD player which spoiled our evening viewing. We all think the sauna is unnecessary in this property and in our opinion will not be attractive to families and you should not increase the rental cost because you have installed it. It might also be good to mention in the listing, that one twin bedroom is accessed by a separate steep staircase, as it might not suit everyone. I am also absolutely appalled at Sykes and the sharp practice of luring people to put a £20 deposit to secure the property and having to pay the full deposit regardless. I only booked this because I have happily dealt with Carbis Bay Holidays for many years. Sykes have made the booking process a NIGHTMARE and I would NOT recommend them to ANYONE.

We enjoyed our time at Glenside.

The house was warm and comfortable. The kitchen fridge freezer and glassware should have been cleaner. The garden as a whole was a bit of a let down. Beds were clean and comfortable and the towels large and fluffy. We felt the house could have benefitted from a little tlc. Although we had issues we would all return to the property.

Had a great stay at Glenside.

Family group of 8 of 3 generations all comfortably accomodated. Also, a superbly equipped kitchen was well received by the chef in the group. The only (slightly) negative comment would be that some of the fittings & furniture in the house are becoming a little tired and maybe would benefit from renewal. All in all we were all extremely happy with our week and would certainly not rule out a return.

A three generation holiday enjoyed by all.

Sufficient and comfortable space for each family member either indoors or outside in the garden. Lovely walks into St Ives and down to Carbis Bay beach.

We had a fabulous stay in a very comfortable home.

The beds were very comfortable and our room had a gorgeous sea view. It was perfectly placed for access to St Ives via a short if not steep walk to Carbis bay station and Carbis bay beach.

A really enjoyable fortnight for a 3 generation family of 6.

Walking distance to St Ives and a 5 minute walk to the beach. Couldn't have asked for a better beach for a 4 year old. The house itself was spacious, with enough room to have "alone" time if required. Enough crockery and cutlery to keep you going for a couple of days, but couldn't find a roasting tin for our Sunday roast. Could have done with a lighter duvet for the really warm nights, or a fan in each of the bedrooms, and maybe the option of a firmer pillow. Also, some curtains in the bedrooms wouldn't go amiss in order to keep the light out. Having noted the negatives, they were outweighed by the positives and we would certainly recommend Glenside and stay there again.

We have enjoyed a very comfortable week in Glenside and had near perfect weather.

The views are delightful and the walk to the beach still within our capabilities! It is a lovely big family house and there are lots of rooms to have ‘away time’ if needed and areas to gather together. Super big stove and fridge freezer, and I have never seen so many kitchen cupboards! Such a lovely entertaining space! We particularly welcomed the style of the furnishings etc that kept to the character and period of this charming granite house. Great range of pictures and interesting feature pieces. Superb fireplaces! Must be so cosy when the weather is colder. The two chesterfield sofas are so stylish and super comfortable. We think the house is a true gem and that Glenside is so much better for a Cornish holiday than some choosing neighbouring lets that are themed in the ubiquitous beach/ Scandi style, however luxurious. My husband spent a lot of his childhood in his grandma’s granite villa in St Ives so it was touching to see how much he loved the stone walls. Thank you

Glenside is a lovely old family home with lots of character that really grows on you.

I didn’t want to leave! The location was perfect for the wedding we attended at Carbis Bay Hotel. The coastal path to Carbis beach was right outside the gate and walking in to St.Ives was easy along the woodland path.The house was always warm and cosy on our return. The kitchen was so big and well equipped it made cooking meals a delight,We spent a lot of time around the large dining table in the evenings Waking each morning to a view of Godrevy lighthouse added to the enjoyment of our stay. There was plenty of space for us all and parking for 3 cars such a bonus. The lounges could do with fresh paint and the old curtains replaced with blinds.A washing line ( not under a fir tree) or indoor clothes airer would help instead of always using tumble dryer. However we would definitely return. Had a great stay,

The house is in the perfect location, close to Carbis bay beach and not far from St Ives.

However, the house was not in the way presented in the photos on Sykes Cottages. We could using the seating outside due to it being green and the under the shelter part was full of cobwebs. The ‘playroom’ is NOT a playroom and is just a garage, full of stuff with a pool table in the middle. The outside could really do with a clean EG windows, conservatory roof etc.

Property would welcome a very deep clean, throughout the whole house.

The stairs to the additional room, which looks as though it is off the garden, but actually it is not - are extremely steep and not ideal for older occupants and the fire escape steps to that room are very slippery and dangerous - not quite sure how they passed a fire inspection. The path and steps at the back door are also extremely slippery and quite dangerous, as they are covered in algae. The kitchen has no oven gloves - well not that we could find, so it was quite difficult to remove things from the oven or off the hob. The kitchen table was very sticky, even after being cleaned several times. Some of chains on the blinds are broken. Lounge furniture extremely uncomfortable to sit on and could do with updating and would also welcome a clean, especially under the cushions it is not pleasant to see debris and also behind the chairs. We think there is a possible leak in the on-suite bathroom - as there was dripping into the plant in the downstairs toilet, which you can see from the light fitting in the downstairs loo has been repaired several times - which would suggest you may already know about this? Large Family bathroom - the floor has loose tiles & grout and the shower head is also broken due to limescale build up, which causes it to leak. Small bathroom, hot tap knob comes off. Previous occupants clothes and underwear in one of wardrobe drawers. Utility room - washing machine door - very difficult to close and if it is not closed correctly - the sensor doesn't register so you have to push it quite hard to get the washing machine to work. NO - clothes airer for the house - so difficult to dry wet clothes etc. Garden - Washing line - under a tree - so you can only use 2 side's and your clothes get covered in conifer debris - also there were no pegs!!! The front gate has screw expose, which caused a cut on my husbands hand as he didn't realise it was exposed. It does state on the details the garden is secure and enclosed - this is not the case - especially at the back where the public path is, the wall under the bushes is very low and my dog nearly escaped. The brick path is very uneven and slippery when wet, not easy to negotiate when you are a little unsteady on your feet. Finally the garage - games room - lots of exposed wires, ladders left open, extremely untidy and not welcoming at all, not ideal for small children. As a family we have visited main properties with Carbis Bay Holiday's and this was a real eye opener and I truly believe it does not warrant 4/5 star's it really is not 1 star worthy. I hope you take this feed back on board and make some improvements going forward.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Glenside and were blessed with good weather.

The kitchen in particular was very well appointed with all the items you could need, however, it did take a little time to workout how the microwave worked. Instructions for the appliances would have been beneficial and some details of the local area although these could be found on the Internet. The lounge areas were comfortable but a little ‘tired’ which I suppose is understandable with pets being permitted to stay. A bonus was the television in the main lounge having Netflix and a TV in each of the bedrooms. The beds we used were comfortable and clean and, like the lounge, there were areas of the bedrooms which were ‘tired’. There was a fantastic view of the sea and Godrevy lighthouse from the main bedroom. Each bathroom was of good quality and clean. We only used the main shower which was refreshing after a day and evening out visiting the local area. Outside the grassed area and surrounding shrubs were very well maintained, however, the decking area was in need of a good clean and some maintenance. Speaking with the gardener he commented that the decking area had been identified as an area to have some work carried out on. With the bad weather during spring and Glenside being fully booked until early next year it is difficult to see when the work could be done. Glenside is very well situated and it is a short walk to the train station with 2 trains a hour for the short, inexpensive, ride into St Ives along a picturesque journey. We used the train many times. The beach is a short walk as well, however, it is quite a steep hill and tiring coming back up. We did find a far easier way to get to the house from the main Carbis Bay to St Ives road which negated the narrow sharp bend. This was to turn down Pannier Lane, next right turn after Valley Road and before Tesco, follow the road down and around and turn left down Parc Owles, Glenside house is the clearly signposted on the right. Whilst at Glenside house we did see if we could book another week in September but found that it is booked until early 2025.

Myself, my husband and his parents stayed at Glenside House for 1 week.

This house is full of character and Cornish style decor. The bed’s are comfy, plenty of storage for belongings and beautiful views. The house is the perfect location for leaving the car and exploring the local area. Carbis Bay Beach is a short walk down a hill. The train station is a 5 mins walk away. We dined out a few nights (recommend La Casita restaurant) and also cooked at home. We used the BBQ one night and found everything we needed at Tesco which is a 5 mins drive away. The weather was beautiful all week and we sat in the garden listening to the birds whilst taking in the beautiful views. In my honest opinion, the house in a few areas requires a little TLC but it didn’t ruin our holiday. If you are looking for a modern house with all high tech, white walls and no character this isn’t the house for you. If you are looking for a Cornish house that was once someone’s home and has character then I couldn’t recommend it enough. I would definitely come back to Glenside.

The external impression of Glenside was a very impressive house.

On entering the house the kitchen was modern and well equipped. Unfortunately after that it was very much a disappointment. The house was very tired and in need of modernisation. All the bedroom furniture was dated. I use Carbis bay holidays about 3\4 times a year and I didn’t feel this property was to your usual standard. It stated it was 4 stars but I would definitely only say it was a 3 star in my opinion

We loved staying at this property.

Had a warm feel and great layout. We have no negative feedback on the house location or facilitate the only thing, which I think has been mentioned before is that it would be welcoming to have sufficient logs and kindling to have a fire without having to buy it all. Also only one bathroom had soap. But as I say generally we loved it! Oh yeah the pool table isn't total flat!

We absolutely loved Glenside.

The location is perfect. The property is spacious, comfortable and well-equipped. Great for our large family group, without feeling on top of each other! This holiday home exceeded our expectations. We look forward to staying again. Thank you.

This beautiful house is elegantly decorated, with lovely furnishings in smashing spaces, and we were really comfortable and warm during our stay (in a wet week in November), with easily controllable heating and hot water.

We arrived to a decorated Xmas tree and lots of strung lights, in living room and dining room, which was quite magical. Beds were very comfy with good quality linen and having a choice of two very nice bathrooms, in the main part of the house, was great. There is a problem with water draining, though, from the “Narnia shower”, and the shower tray filled alarmingly to the top very quickly. The pretty, smallish garden would be lovely during the summer, and the owners have made it a charming space. Maybe trim the foliage a bit, to expose more of the gorgeous view towards the sea. Being so close to the SW Coast path is great, though it’s steep and a bit intimidating with the graffiti on the substation being the first thing you see coming out of the gate. The kitchen is very high spec, with a huge range cooker, coffee machine, lots of cupboard space and worktops and very pleasant indeed to cook in. However, some basic items were missing, including a corkscrew, serving dishes, mixing bowl, wooden spoons, cafetière, newer sharp knives and decent sized cereal bowls. I tried to cook a roast dinner. The oven trays and some of the pans were in a very poor state and needed replacing. There was only one casserole dish and two small Pyrex ones, but luckily we were only two guests. For eight people more options of kitchenware is definitely needed. The oven also was due a good clean and there were a few too many spiders in cupboards and corners (The vacuum cleaner was hidden under ‘stuff’ in the understairs cupboard and weighed a ton because it clearly hadn't been emptied for ages, so we couldn’t use it to clean up spiders or on checkout at the end). We LOVED the log burner in the main living room and would really have appreciated a starter bag of logs (none were left) as we had no idea where to buy some from (there aren’t any garages around and we didn’t find Tesco straight away). The ‘welcome pack’ of two small bottles of apple juice and shortbreads probably wasn’t worth leaving, except for kids maybe? We figure it’s because we only stayed five nights that neither logs nor wine were provided (luckily we brought our own wine). Parking is not on the property itself, which we hadn’t picked up from the Sykes details. This was a bit stressful at first, and made unloading and loading (in the rain both times) more difficult. I realise there is nothing that can be done about it, except maybe make it clear you have to park outside on a lane, and walk quite far across the garden to the back door. We loved having a keysafe as we much prefer to manage our own check-in. All in all a smashing property which needs a few tweaks to make it perfect. We had a lovely stay.

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Glenside.

The house was very comfortable and well equipped. The location was fabulous, you should bear in mind the walk back from the fabulous beach is quite steep, so be prepared. Lovely walks across to St Ives and Hayle Estuary along the coast path that passes right by the house. We were blessed with Fabulous early October weather which made Carbis Bay and the surrounding area look absolutely stunning.

Fantastic location, the property itself needs a bit of tlc, pair work could do with a lick of paint.

A good deep clean through especially the bathrooms. Could do with new carpets and the garden could do with a good trim back as the foliage is over the foot path to the house and having to walk on the grass. As there is no drive directly to the house the owners could do with supply what I would call a log trolly to carry belongings from and to the car on arrival. We had a good holiday from this location but would on give this 3 starts out of 5. Garth Tyler.

The 20th anniversary of our first visit to Glenside.

Our grandchildren have been here every year of their lives and love it SO much. They have enjoyed many happy times on the beach regardless of the weather forecast. We even managed a BBQ. Thank you so much for the use of this cozy but roomy holiday home. A place full of memories for all of our three generation holidays.

We would stay forever if we could, such a lovely warm homely house that has offered us enough space to enjoy our holiday as we all would like.

The welcome would have seemed warmer if shorter logs were provided and soap at all the sinks but other than that - what a truly wonderful home for a holiday. A house that grows on you and by the end of the week we didn't want to leave.

What a lovely week we have had.

A lovely home from home and we were blessed with the first whole week of good weather in 2024.

Very warm, comfortable and well appointed. Loved the tapas and cocktails in Tretho Lounge, St Ives. So impressed and enjoyed so much that we looked at booking again but unfortunately fully booked for the rest of 2024. We are now looking at 2025.

Such a beautiful and old family home. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Been coming to St Ives area for over 40 years and this has been the best location. The wonderfully equipped kitchen made meal times easy and the view from the master bedroom is stunning. Would definitely like to return.

Three generations of the family + Eddie the dog had a fantastic week!

Many happy hours spent at Carbis Bay beach – the teens enjoyed bodyboarding & the adults a wine or two. We all enjoyed bat watching in the garden, family dinners around the table. Would love to know about the history of the house though. Also got lucky with the Perseids meteors on the garden room balcony. Recommend Becks! (chippy).

Absolutely cracking week - beautiful beach days - felt + looked like the Caribbean!

Many scones eaten, serious sweating in the sauna, got arty farty at the Tate, coffee at Crowst paired wit perfect pastries from the bakery. It was such a brilliant base. Lots of very good family dinners around the table. Only found the secret bathroom on our last day haha!
