This time we did not like the new Tv and all the associated entertainment which did not appeal to us. We would have preferred simpler access to ordinary Tv programmes. The only grouse.

Very clean, great location. Very well equipped & comfortable. Parking in secure gated car park. The views are stunning. Short walk to the shops, beach & train station. We walked around the coastal path to carbis bay & caught the train back. Nothing negative to say.

“Pros: - stunning seaside and beach views - modern interior decor Cons: - very intermittent wifi, especially in bedroom - parking is HORRENDOUS.”

.. gate to enter and exit the parking area is ridiculously tight, as are the parking bays (some of which are situated between closely spaced pillars that you can just about squeeze through! ). I ended up scraping my car in the process, which is likely to cost me more to repair than the accommodation...in hindsight I should have paid more for accommodation with better parking. To anyone who has a decent car they wish to avoid scraping, I can't in good conscience recommend this place as it's the most terribly conceived parking set up I've encountered.

Thank you for your feedback. The wifi is shortly to be upgraded to full fast fibre along with Sky Q. Just for clarification the gates to the carpark are standard width and the parking space is too. We as owners have a large SUV and have never scraped our car. To give such negative feedback based on the parking seems unfair The carpark has not changed and other guests do not find it a problem. “Second visit to English Harbour both during Christmas time.”

The apartment didn’t disappoint. The view from the lounge is spectacular and is a huge draw for us. The bed is super comfortable and we enjoyed having Sky tv for those relaxing nights after exploring the area. We ate out every evening as so many places in St Ives to enjoy. We even got to see Santa arrive on the lifeboat!

“The property is in a great position and has good facilities inside.”

The added extra of the spa over the road was also lovely. Unfortunately this didn’t out way the price paid for a flat that has a black mould problem in all of the rooms . Especially bad in the bedroom even after cleaning. It was behind the bed, the units annd along the skirting board, In the bathroom and on the living room ceiling. The smell was quite strong. How this has been missed before our arrival I wouldn’t know. Sorry for the poor review but it’s not acceptable. I won’t be using Sykes again.

“This was the second time that we have stayed in this appartment, we had a great holiday and the accommodation was faultless.”

Its so convenient for walking into St Ives, parking which is a bonus. The new fitted wardrobes are great. We had a problem with the dishwasher but the maintenance team were there within a couple of hours. We will be back next year. Thanks.

“The flat was absolutely lovely with a great view.”

It was very clean and very well-quipped. As I mentioned in the visitors' book, I personally found the pillows a bit on the firm side and would suggest the option of some soft pillows too - but this is only a very minor criticism and would definitely try to book this flat again when we return to St Ives. I did also mention that on a couple of occasions the fire door into the car park was locked and suggested that a notice is put on the door asking that is is not locked at any time. Had a fantastic holiday and would definitely recommend this property to family and friends.

It is not a fire exit from the building and the lock is fully compliant with fire regs and is fitted to prevent unauthorised (nonresident) access to the garage and should be kept locked. “On arrival we were very pleased with location, cleanliness & parking.”

Great views of Porthminster beach & spectacular sunrises, especially enjoyed seeing the little train coming & going. Our first impression was that the apartment was very well equipped & comfortable with good quality linen, kitchen facilities, particularly appreciated the beach towels. The bed was very comfortable, but we found the pillows too big to suit us. However there was evidence of black mould particularly in the bedroom & bathroom. Slight smell of damp & noted interior dehumidifiers left around. We needed to leave the bedroom window open at night. Unfortunately the very noisy industrial extractor fan from the hotel next door, started up at 6am waking us every morning! Neighbours light from hallway left on at night, flooded through the transom window & disturbed our nights sleep. We would suggest this is blocked up. Overall we enjoyed our holiday.

“Convenient location and great sea views.”

Generally well equipped and comfortable, though less attractive and less welcoming than similar apartments we have stayed in recently (including in Carrack Widden). A couple of particular niggles: the photos on the website need updating to show the current furniture - though this would probably have deterred us from booking; we also found the complexity of the TV setup frustrating and not user friendly.

Thank you for your feedback. The response from all our guests is always positive and the new furniture recently added has proved popular. The website photos are not current but this is not the owners responsibility. Also we update our apartment regularly to keep everything new and fresh and this isnt always reflected in the photos. All that has changed is the sofa and the TV unit so unable to see why this is not attractive. The TV is a smart TV with Netflix and Sky and has not been a problem to previous guests. The quick start guide is there to assist. We are sorry to read that you would not have booked if you had seen the new layout as we feel this has made English Harbour more attractive. Property Owner

“We absolutely loved the flat.”

Everything was perfect! When we arrived I did phone the Harbour Hotel Spa to see if we could use the pool, but the membership hadn't been renewed at that point (4th May), that was slightly disappointing, but if you did renew, it would have been useful to have been informed. Aside from that everything was fabulous. Will definitely book again.

The spa membership has not expired and no guests are turned away as owners are contacted if guests wish to use the spa/pool and there is a problem or renewal has been overlooked. “The apartment is exactly as described and was lovely.”

We loved the decor and the furnishings, sofa was great. It was ideal for quick access to St Ives, the parking was so useful. We visited every NT site in the area! Minack theatre was a bonus - they were doing a dress rehearsal for a humorous take on Madame Bovary, not an easy thing to do, and we sat in the warm sunshine to watch. We had dinner at the Harbour Hotel, using our 20% discount - excellent. Everything was lovely, but just a few points: The pillows were far too fat and firm for comfort, a choice of alternatives would have been appreciated. The curtains in the lounge area were very difficult to close, and with the morning sun, needed to be. Might I suggest you spray the curtain pole with furniture polish - it is an easy solution to provide slippability. We couldn't access Netflix - for some reason, we think maybe a previous guest had logged in. Not the end of the world, but annoying. We couldn't find any instructions regarding recycling.

“Having visited St Ives for the last 60 years English Harbour has been one of the most convenient and well equipped apartments we have stayed in.”

The views from the window are breathtaking and being able to park our car below where we are staying is a massive bonus especially in St Ives. In the apartment there was nothing that we didn’t have, normally there are not enough coat hangers, my wife was totally surprised at having so many. The fixtures and fittings were to a very high standard. We had a very good week and will be looking at booking a longer stay next year. There is just one point I would wish to mention, this year we spent 5 weeks of our summer in Cornwall and because of our length of stay there was a large reduction on the cost, I note that is not the same with Carbis bay holidays, we would love to book English Harbour for a longer stay but would appreciate a reduction in costs for a extended stay.

“It is a lovely apartment however, disappointed with the bathroom sink (way too small and not really much good) and the positioning of the toilet roll is wrong, totally gets in the way) The door requires some WD40 on the hinges to stop the noise when opening and closing especially in the small hours.”

The wording on the instructions to gain entry is a bit confusing, it says: "communal hall" which indicates a room instead of communial HALLWAY which is more clear and gives a totally different expectation.

“Mixed feelings.”

The flat is in an ideal location with only a couple minutes walk to the beach/train station/town. It also has a perfect view of the beach which was really nice especially with the table in front. We also really appreciated the spa passes included which were an amazing benefit. However, I don’t usually write reviews but felt our experience was tarnished somewhat by a couple of issues. One was the smell of the property, there was a really unpleasant smell in certain areas of the kitchen including near the fridge as well as a weird smell when you first walk in the door especially when it’s hot. We also didn’t feel cleanliness was up to a standard we’d expect as when we arrived there was bits of food on the rug, hair in the bedroom drawers, food left in the cupboard as well as the cheese grater not being clean. The smell as well as it not being 100% clean made our stay less comfortable as it made it unpleasant being in the kitchen area and we were also put off using the kitchen equipment/putting our food in the cupboards. We looked everywhere for what could be causing the smell but couldn’t find what was causing it and we also bought febreeze to improve it but it didn’t help. It’s a shame as these are problems that could definitely have been improved with thorough cleaning between guests.

“This flat was lovely, perfect for a family of 3.”

Toddler loved the space of the open plan setting. My only two criticisms are as follows 1.The sink in the bathroom is too small, water gets everywhere. 2. The strong perfumed diffusers that were put in the flat were far too strong and overpowering a smell for my liking. Pros, great location, really comfy bed, great parking, great facilities such as washing machine, pots and pans etc in the flat, making it a home away from home. Also great choice in terms of the TV and subscriptions. Thank you for the little present on arrival, juice, a bag, and biscuits, nice touch. We would stay again.

“Just as described, great quality bedding and comfortable bed.”

Plentiful hot water and good shower. Good range of cooking pans and utensils. Fab view. I found the heating instructions difficult to operate, got it working eventually but not by following details in manual. Helpful staff at office in carbis bay offered immediate help, thanks. The underground parking was easy, however it was dark and unlit so I felt uncomfortable accessing garage after dark, due to time of year this was quite early. I know it was safe but maybe an automatic sensor light could be installed? As a single woman I did feel a little vulnerable. I would still re book the property though.

However whilst they are not unbearable, every time we've been we've been we notice the terrible squeak from the bathroom door and the ill fitting toilet seat!! Surely both could be fixed quite easily.

“The view from the window was as amazing as shown on the website, I'm not sure how long the pictures were taken but the bathroom needs properly updating there was a crack in the shower tray and alot of mould.”

There was a strong smell of damp when you walk into the property and we have noticed the clean clothes we bought back smell the same. There is electrical condit behind the dressing table that is loose off the wall. There could do with being more glasses only 2 wine ones,one of which was cracked and subsequently broke. We normally stay at Gallinas point and would probably book there again due to the standard of the properties.

As owners we would like to point out that the bathroom was put in a couple of years ago and does not require updating. We have been informed there is a small scratch on the shower tray. We apologise for the lack of cleaning of any mould in the shower and have re-layed this to the cleaners. Thank you for bringing to our attention that the conduit requires repair as due to Covid we have not been able to attend our apartment as often as we did to carry out maintenance checks. This would also apply to crockery, glassware etc but are disappointed that a previous guest would put a broken glass back in the cupboard. We are not aware of any damp issues. “We stayed here in early July.”

We found it was in the perfect location - close enough to wander down into St Ives but far enough out for some peace and quiet. Lovely to be within spitting distance of Porthminster beach, particularly as the weather was hot. Always good to have secure parking but I can easily see how you could leave the car there for a week and explore on foot. It's one of the few properties we would go back to as a week didn't feel enough. We particularly liked the spa passes and used them most days, even in the hot weather. It was bliss to be able to go for a swim after a long day out. Highly recommend!

“Stayed in November and returned 6 weeks later we loved it so much!”

English harbour is a real home from home, so cosy, fantastic view and has all the amenities you could wish for, especially the complimentary spa and gym passes. (Thank you!) It is perfectly placed for easy walking into St Ives, with the bonus of a secure parking space if you decide to venture further out you don't have to worry when you arrive back. Would thoroughly recommend and can't wait to return once again.
