“This is a very nice house but does have some issues.”
It is made clear that the steps are not suitable for some users and whilst two of our party, aged 80 years, managed reasonably well there were some areas where a simple gab handle would have helped and would of course extend the appeal of the house to a wider audience.
Clothes hangers are supplied in some rooms but not all. Three of our party had to live out of suitcases.
The heating system did not appear to be adjustable , reverting back to the pre-set temperature if lowered?
Duvets were very warm, causing sweating, even when separating the double layered duvets supplied. Not sure what togs are used but it would be good if 4.5 tog or 2.5 tog could be offered as an alternative.
There was a lack of surfaces to accommodate bathroom items, maybe more shelving units or built in shelves would be useful. Also the only way to use shower gel was to wedge the gel behind the shower control. There are some nice self adhesive soap dishes available which would assist.
There were no instructions for the TV, we survived on YouTube , GB news , awful programme . Would have been good if set up for BBC 1, BBc2, ITV 1, Channel 4 and Channel 5 . Seemed there was not a standard aerial. Also no Netflix or Prime services as these requested a pin number when accessed..
The entrance steps are potentially dangerous, need to be checked that they comply with the Building Regulations regarding guarding on the left hand side as it is too easy to step back and fall onto the drive from the top step . A pending claim here if an accident occurs. Could be solved by a simple stainless steel guard / handrail
The garden area is very simplistic and some form of landscaping, pergola area / barbeque area could add to the appeal of the house.
The above said, we would not dismiss the idea of renting the house again in the future.
Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback following your stay at Estuary Watch. We’re pleased to hear that you found the house very nice overall and that your group would consider returning in the future — that really means a lot.
We genuinely appreciate your comments on accessibility and comfort, and we’re glad the two elderly members of your party managed the steps reasonably well. Suggestions such as the addition of bathroom shelving and outdoor enhancements like a pergola are really helpful and will be taken into consideration as we continue to improve the property.
Since your visit, we’ve added more clothes hangers to improve convenience. Regarding the heating system, it’s designed to revert to a comfortable default setting, to save guests the hassle of adjusting an unfamiliar system. It also automatically switches off in warm weather for comfort and efficiency.
On the duvets, we provide a combination system offering 4.5 tog, 9 tog, or 13.5 tog — the standard four-season options — so guests can tailor warmth to their preference.
As for the TV, we provide a smart television and ask that guests log in with their own streaming accounts. We’ve taken on board your comments about the availability of standard channels and are looking at a solution to this. In the meantime we will make our guidance clearer in the welcome information to avoid any confusion.
Thank you again for your thoughtful suggestions — feedback like yours helps us to enhance the experience for all guests. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again in the future.
