Staycation in Cornwall

Cornwall is among the most desirable holiday locations in the UK, with millions of tourists visiting the county every year. But why? Well, we may be a little bit biased, but with hundreds of beaches, beautiful scenery, an array of charming towns and villages, and much more, it’s easy to see why. Oh, and the pasties are to die for!

As we said, we may be a little bit biased, but that doesn’t mean we’re not right. So how about we convince you? In this post, we’ll highlight a few reasons why you should go on a staycation in Cornwall. Trust us, it’ll be one to remember, and you’ll most definitely be back.

World-Class Beaches

Staycation in Cornwall - Beach

No blog post about holidays in Cornwall would be complete or even noteworthy if we failed to mention how amazing the beaches are. If you’re fond of the sea, sand and (hopefully) some sunshine — Cornwall not only has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, there’s over 300 of them to choose from. Quality, quantity and something to suit everyone’s needs.

Why invest the time, money and effort into a trip abroad when you have such a wide range of beautiful beaches on your doorstep? Not to mention the complications and uncertainties Covid-19 has introduced to international travel.

So, whether you’re seeking surfing paradises, beautiful hidden coves, or welcoming beaches for the perfect family staycation experience — you simply cannot beat the abundance of beaches in Cornwall.

Amazing Wildlife

There are a million and one reasons to staycation in Cornwall, but one thing people often overlook is the incredible array of wildlife both in the sea and on land. When it comes to the former, the sea and coastal paths provide ample opportunity to spot seals, basking sharks and dolphins. Not to mention the marine wildlife you can discover whilst swimming or visiting the wide range of beaches — such as jellyfish, crabs and starfish, to name a few.

But it’s not all about the sea! As you explore the Cornish countryside, you’ll stumble upon sheep and other farm animals, an incredible variety of birds, wild deer, and much more. Also, if you visit Cornwall with your children, many different animal-based activities are worth checking out.

Outdoor Pursuits

Sunset Surfer

If you’re someone who loves to be as active as possible, you won’t be disappointed if you staycation in Cornwall. It’s a world-famous surfer’s paradise, but at many beaches, you’ll also be able to hire paddleboards and kayaks if you’re not adept at riding waves. Speaking of the sea, sailing is a fantastic way to get out on the water and look back at the beautiful Cornish coast. Or the simplest activity of all, jump in the sea for a refreshing swim — many locals take an early morning dip to get the day started with a paddle and a beautiful sunrise. You should try it!

If the sea isn’t your cup of tea, there are many other outdoor activities to try. Coastal walks are a popular choice as it’s free, good exercise and gives you an opportunity to explore areas of Cornwall you wouldn’t have seen before. There are also activities such as horse riding, quad biking and caving if you fancy something a bit more exciting. However, Cornwall is in the UK, which means the weather is often unreliable. Fortunately for you, we’ve compiled a great list of activities for rainy days.

Self-catered accommodation

Whether it’s a trip with friends, your partner or a family staycation, the accommodation you choose can be a make or break factor. While hotels are a very popular choice, self-catered accommodation has become a go-to for staycations as it offers a wide range of benefits you can’t get from other accommodation. Self-catered accommodation is a home-away-from-home, meaning you have unrivalled flexibility and freedom. You don’t have to adhere to someone else’s timetable or rules, and you have a lot more space to enjoy.

For holidays in Cornwall, self-catered is a more appealing option as it provides many different advantages, but primarily it allows you to feel like one of the locals. You can come home from a long day of exploring and activities to your own private space. Not to mention the fact that self-catered is fantastic value for money, and you can even bring your dog to certain accommodations.

At Carbis Bay Holidays, we have a range of lovely apartments and charming holiday cottages for you to choose from. We have something to suit everyone’s needs and can offer expert knowledge to ensure that your Cornwall staycation is one to remember.

Cornish Heritage & Pasties

Staycation in Cornwall - Cornish Pasty

Yes, Cornwall has beautiful beaches, breathtaking scenery, and the list goes on… but its heritage and traditions are other aspects that make the county so charming. Oh, and the pasties, but we’ll get to that in a minute. Cornwall has many different heritage sites that look incredible and provide a unique insight into the history of such a famous county.

Cornish people are very proud of their history, and this is evident when you visit any of the heritage sites — from castles to mining paths to ancient stones and burial chambers. They’re well maintained to capture the aesthetical magic of the bronze age, iron age and beyond. If you or your family happen to love history and UK heritage, you couldn’t wish for a more authentic and engaging experience.

Speaking of traditions and heritage. Pasties are a cornerstone of Cornwall and its history. Trust us; you’ll be kicking yourself if you don’t try one! No matter what town or village you visit, a pasty shop will be within a stone’s throw and provide the perfect fuel for your day out. However, when you return home, there’s a good chance you’ll long for the delightfulness of a Cornish pasty. Oh well, it’s a great excuse to come back, isn’t it?
